Voice Student Reviews

I took individual and group voice lessons with Izolda, because I played guitar and needed to learn to sing to gig with my acoustic duo. I was skeptical about my abilities and hoped to overcome my singing challenges by developing solid vocal technique. Izolda offered a creative cross-disciplinary approach that integrated vocal technique with exercises to build confidence, leverage imagination for proper muscle response, get in character, improve dynamics, and much more. Izolda was always encouraging and honest with feedback. Her group lessons truly leveraged the energy of the group, so the experience went beyond just splitting a time slot with others. Together, these things gave me the confidence to start singing with my duo regularly. Izolda’s many exercises, visualizations, and tips and tricks are still my “go to” years later! I highly recommend Izolda! -Deborah Sward

As a professional musician myself I’m always looking to improve my musicianship and I have a grasp on how I’d like to do that with my instrumental performance, I’d really been struggling with how to improve my singing.

I was fortunate to hear that Izokds was offering a class and it was amazing! While she had plenty of insights and exercises for physical production of sound, her techniques for investigating what a song means to the singer really helped me make amazing improvements in my ability to convey meaning and emotion to an audience.

Izolda is a talented and patient teacher and really has a gift for making each person understand how to reach for more!-Brooke Parkhurst

Izolda’s is the best of the best! She is so kind, patience, motivational and excellent at what she does. I had taken lessons for singing and felt so much more confident in my abilities. I also learned vocal warmups and the anatomy of my voice box. She taught me how to really treat my voice with respect as an instrument. My newborn loves all the songs I sing to him and I feel more confident at karaoke too 😉 -Miranda Roldán, Actor, TV Host, and VO ArtistActor, TV Host, and VO Artist

I first met Izolda at a weekend group choral workshop about 14 years ago. Her clear and relatable teaching style immediately resonated with me. Over the subsequent years I took a few lessons with her and she provided me with multiple things that stuck:

Technique and range – the voice is an instrument like any other that has to be practiced and developed. She provided the means to practice and develop it in the range that worked for me.

Queues and exercises – she had numerous queues that were easy to implement and remember that made my voice feel more powerful, steady, and filled with emotion. Things like what to do with facial muscles, breathing, the rest of my body, and where to look/focus.

Story – she provided numerous anecdotes about people, singers, their journeys, colorful situations, song writers, and the meanings behind song that helped me to find passion and joy in every song.

I had been contemplating auditioning for a prominent local chorus for many years, but had been putting it off due to life commitments and lack of confidence. Over the past few years I had been practicing by doing karaoke and singing in the shower (using some of what I learned from Izolda), but felt that my technique still needed work and I didn’t yet feel confident enough to audition.

I finally built up the courage to do so just, and I instinctually knew that I needed to talk with Izolda for advice and coaching, as it had been a couple of years since our last lesson. So we met, and she provided me with support and confidence as well as coaching in all of the above categories. I auditioned 48 hours later, and made it in! During that time she sent me kind, thoughtful, and encouraging messages, helped me to stay calm, and responded to a few panicky questions from me.:). Thank you Izolda for all your help! –Eric Manas

    Workshop and Class Reviews

Izolda’s demeanor and connection to our unit was engaging and electrifying! In just two hours, she had even the most reluctant members of our team singing and having a great time. We will definitely carry these techniques with us on our “clown rounds” and beyond in our individual careers. -John Dodge, Supervisor, Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center

“Learn to Sing class is completely unlike American Idol, though from the start students know they are expected to perform for the “final.” Instead of squashing a singer’s enthusiasm, Izolda nurtures it, to the end that the voice grows technically in strength and psychologically in confidence. Through the intimate design of the class, Izolda provides the medium in which individuals can share with their classmates, each learning from the others, as well as the teacher, and growing together into a garden of voices.”

She has a confidence inspiring manner that makes even the shyest bath tub-only singers feel able to open their mouths to sing in front of others for maybe the very first time!.”-Sioban Farey

“Finally, I understand what people mean by ‘placement,’ ‘breathe with your diaphragm,’ and all those singing terms that seemed so mysterious.
Not only can I sing better, but I can learn better. When’s the next class?”-Kevin Boyce
