What People Are Saying
I first met Izolda at a weekend group choral workshop about 14 years ago. Her clear and relatable teaching style immediately resonated with me. Over the subsequent years I took a few lessons with her and she provided me with multiple things that stuck:
Technique and range – the voice is an instrument like any other that has to be practiced and developed. She provided the means to practice and develop it in the range that worked for me.
Queues and exercises – she had numerous queues that were easy to implement and remember that made my voice feel more powerful, steady, and filled with emotion. Things like what to do with facial muscles, breathing, the rest of my body, and where to look/focus.
Story – she provided numerous anecdotes about people, singers, their journeys, colorful situations, song writers, and the meanings behind song that helped me to find passion and joy in every song.
I had been contemplating auditioning for a prominent local chorus for many years, but had been putting it off due to life commitments and lack of confidence. Over the past few years I had been practicing by doing karaoke and singing in the shower (using some of what I learned from Izolda), but felt that my technique still needed work and I didn’t yet feel confident enough to audition.
I finally built up the courage to do so just, and I instinctually knew that I needed to talk with Izolda for advice and coaching, as it had been a couple of years since our last lesson. So we met, and she provided me with support and confidence as well as coaching in all of the above categories. I auditioned 48 hours later, and made it in! During that time she sent me kind, thoughtful, and encouraging messages, helped me to stay calm, and responded to a few panicky questions from me.:). Thank you Izolda for all your help! -Eric Manas
